When Extractions Are Necessary

When a tooth is deeply hurt by decay or a persistent infection, it can be quite painful. While we always try to save your tooth with a root canal first, sometimes a gentle extraction is the best way to stop the ache and keep the rest of your mouth healthy and happy.

Sometimes, there just isn’t quite enough room for everyone! Whether your teeth are feeling a bit crowded or a wisdom tooth is stuck (impacted), removing a tooth can relieve that “tight” feeling and prevent future alignment issues.

If gum disease has made a tooth feel loose or unsupported, removing it can actually help your gums heal. It’s a proactive step to protect your neighboring teeth and get your oral health back on a steady path.

If a tooth is severely cracked or damaged in an accident and can’t be fixed with a crown, we’ll gently remove it to prevent further pain and talk about beautiful ways to restore your smile.

Extraction Recovery

Manage Discomfort: Some swelling and discomfort is completely normal. Over the counter medicine and an ice pack will help with pain and swelling!
Gently rinse your mouth with salt water after 24 hours to keep the extraction site clean, but avoid spitting forcefully or using straws, as this can disrupt healing.
Stick to soft foods for the first few days to avoid putting pressure on the extraction site.
Smoking can delay healing and increase the risk of complications, such as dry socket.
